Hi, I am Gene. I am the writer and food photographer at Food in Color. A whole foods blog that curates mostly whole, good for you recipes. I love to play with ingredients and to test recipes to make them healthy and delicious. I am interested in paleo, Whole30, Keto and AIP recipes. I am obsessed with helping people make healthy choices in their daily lives to be free from food condemnation. Life is short so hopefully this corner of the web will help you in your health and taste goals.
I was not a natural cook but my love for being in the kitchen has grown strong. My nose in a recipe book is a happy place and my imagination goes wild with alternatives as well as an appreciation for the art of the recipe creator. I am passionate about real food that fuels life without feeling restricted. My flavor bible is my friend.
The dining room tableand the ability to gather friends together is life-giving and the best part about food anything. We all need to eat but sharing food with people makes the fondest of memories. We eat with our eyes so I am always looking for ways to make the setting ambient and the food look beautiful.
Gene’s world
I am married to the kindest most wonderful man. He’s my match and knows and loves me well. We have 2 kids, one of which I homeschool and we rock family vibes. We love to travel and make memories. I like to say amidst our adventures, “we are making a memory.”
I grew up in a relaxed port city in South Africa and get to call the magnificent city of Chicago home. As my family grew with the birth of our first child I went from corporate career lady and pilates studio owner and teacher to… __________ yep that’s what it felt like. Nothing. I picked up some freelance work and kept my brain in the game but there was something missing. Something CREATIVE. Food blogging I love you.
I am also walking the road of homeschooling my kids and renovating our basement with my husband so you may see some sprinkles of DIY and homeschooling in my conversations with you.
